We know you need to discipline your dog when they misbehave but yelling can stress your dog out.

In fact when you yell, the dog hears it as angry barking which can be a signal that they are about to get into a fight. Trainers will tell you that yelling is a poor technique to incorporate when teaching your dog to differentiate between right and wrong.

Instead of yelling try lowering the tone of your voice in a firm but calm manner. This works much better and won’t agitate your dog.

So next time try changing the tone of your voice instead of raising the volume.

  1. A lot of these are just common sense (which I know is sadly lacking in some folks) but it all depends on the dog. Besides that, being the incredibly intuitive and sensitive creatures that they are, they will adapt to how you express affection. Our dogs will lick our faces off if we let them, and we kiss their little heads in return.
