18. Demanding They Give Kisses

Some dog owners have to work hard to keep their dogs from giving them kisses while other dogs have to work hard to try and convince their owners not to kiss them. What you need to understand is that dogs don’t lick faces for the same reasons that humans do.
Humans kiss to show affection; dogs lick faces as an act of submission. Trying to make your dog kiss you is like someone coming up to you and asking you to bow down to them.
Things get even more complicated when you express your interest by kissing your dog, which your dog is likely to see as a sign that you are treating it as the “alpha,” which will short-circuit its doggy brain. Don’t ask for kisses, pets, belly rubs, and snacks are better ways to show affection.

A lot of these are just common sense (which I know is sadly lacking in some folks) but it all depends on the dog. Besides that, being the incredibly intuitive and sensitive creatures that they are, they will adapt to how you express affection. Our dogs will lick our faces off if we let them, and we kiss their little heads in return.

Dogs love car rides, and of course you shouldn’t give them spoiled food!!! Most of these are common sense, but we know dogs have more common sense than most people!!!
