The Tibetan Mastiff hails from nomadic cultures in the area of Tibet, Nepal and other Central Asian countries. They’re well known for their dark coats and light, tan faces and chests. Despite their name, the Tibetan Mastiff is not, by definition, a mastiff. Rather, they’re more comparable to a mountain dog.

Males can stand up to 33 inches in height and weight anywhere between 100 to 160 pounds, while females are only marginally smaller. They were originally bred as guardian dogs for flocks and livestock, which leaves them to be independent and intelligent creatures. They were bred to be able to fight off wolves, which makes them as strong as they are massive.
