The Leonberger is also known as a “gentle lion” and it certainly looks the part. This particular dog gets its name from a city in Germany by the name of Leonberg. With it’s dark face and cinnamon body, the Leonberger stands at 29 inches tall in males and 27 inches in females.

Males can weigh all the way up to 150 pounds, while females tend to weigh in at 115 pounds. While the Leonberger is large and can look incredibly intimidating, they tend to be playful, intelligent, loyal and kind.

They make good family pets. However, the average life expectancy of a Leonberger dog is only about 7 years, so you’ll want to be committed to outliving your beloved pet by many, many years.
