The Bernese Mountain Dog hails from the Bern region in Switzerland. They were originally bred as a farm dog that would help protect both property and livestock, and they’re still used in those situations because they’re such intelligent and independent animals.

They’re friendly and docile, which makes them perfect family pets. These dogs are anywhere between 25 to 27 inches in height on average, and can weight up to 125 pounds in males. Females are only marginally smaller in size. Despite their massive height and weight, the Bernese Mountain Dog works will in a family unit, especially with smaller children and pets.
