Bred in South Africa, the Boerboel was originally used as a guard dog, and for good reason. They make an intimidating picture, with large jowls and a massive, powerfully muscled body. The Boerboel is a formidable breed, and they can stand at 27 inches in height. They also weigh in at an average of 220 pounds.

Despite their almost terrifying proportions, the Boerboel is an obedient dog and are incredibly loyal to their owners and families. They’re also incredibly intelligent, and are protective of both their territory and their family. They make good family dogs and, despite their size, will be good with children.
