The Komondor is more easily recognized as a ‘mop dog’ in popular culture. This dog forms natural dreadlocks in its tightly coiled white fur. They have been bred for a long, long time as guard dogs for both livestock and property – and it’s a good thing, too, because they’re massive.
Female Komondor dogs can grow up to 28 inches in height and weight up to 110 lbs. Males, on the other hand, can grow even larger, with an average of about 35 inches in height and weighing in at a whopping 130 pounds.
The Komondor hails from Hungary, and it is considered one of Hungary’s national treasures. There is a promise from its home country to protect this breed from any breeding modifications to make sure it always looks like it’s iconic, and gigantic, self.
