23. When Ella Fitzgerald was banned from performing in 1950s Los Angeles, Marilyn worked to get her a gig. She eventually convinced a venue to host her as long as Marilyn sat in the front row for each show.
This is another interesting layer to Marilyn’s personality. Though she wasn’t known for being a social activist, she clearly cared about being involved in justice movements.
It’s curious what she would have done had she lived further into the 1960s, given how much progress was made during that tumultuous decade. Would she have publicly supported any movements?
