11. Just before her death in 1962, Marilyn was in the process of reading two books: Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird and Leo Rosten’s Captain Newman MD, which was based on the life of Marilyn’s psychiatrist, Ralph Greenson.
It’s interesting to think of Marilyn Monroe as a reader. Certainly, she wasn’t some sort of fool, and it shouldn’t be surprising that she was a fan of reading novels; still, it’s just not something typically talked about in her characterization.
