18. Marilyn believed that she was the descendent of President James Monroe. This, however, was not supported by any evidence that anyone could discover, so it was likely untrue.
It is also unclear as to why she would believe this, outside of them sharing the surname “Monroe” in her stage name (which came from her mother’s maiden name). Perhaps it added some prestigious lineage to her image, and that was the draw. Who’s to say, really. Maybe it was something her mother told her?
