Neighbor Shoots Family’s Dog With Pellet Gun For Months & May Get Away With It

A family in Albuquerque, New Mexico is appalled and frustrated after they found out their neighbor was shooting their dog with a pellet gun for months, thanks to the surveillance video from their Ring doorbell camera.

Back in June, when Javier Baca’s wife heard their Doberman-Blue Heeler mix, Rocket, crying, she reviewed the camera to see their neighbor, David Wiegand, shoot Rocket with a pellet gun.

Javier then called Wiegand, who lied and said it wasn’t him, and rather that it was kids throwing stuff in their yard.

The family decided to look back through the footage and realized that Wiegand had been doing this for the past six months. In the footage dating back to last January, they could see him walking along the cement wall with a gun.

After seeing the video, they felt Rocket and found a bunch of lumps. When they rushed him to the vet, x-rays revealed that he had been shot with nine pellets.

Wiegand finally admitted to the heinous act, and says it was because the dog always barks, but says he never reported the issue before shooting him.

The Bacas are furious and feel as if they are not getting the justice Rocket deserves. Their young kids are also now afraid to play in their own backyard because of Wiegand is capable of.

“We’ve been with Animal Welfare and we’ve been talking with them and they were up in contact with us until about two months ago,” Baca told KRQE.

“We started calling 311 because we weren’t hearing nothing from them and then they just told us that they’re not moving forward anymore.”

The case was passed to an Animal Welfare officer who has since left the city. They then assigned the case to another officer, and it is still being investigated, but the family is unsure if Wiegand will even face any charges.

Wiegand owns a construction company and also serves on the board of the Menaul School, where he has since resigned from.
