Neighbors of Mike Perez, a dog foster with Abandoned Animal Rescue in Magnolia, Texas, said they spotted a Pit Bull roaming the neighborhood who was in dire need of help.
When Perez went to find him, he spotted him lying in a neighbor’s driveway, exhausted and staring death right in the face.

He had scars all over his face and body, with fresh wounds on top of them. This poor dog was believed to have been used as a bait-dog in dog-fighting.
He also had ticks and fleas, so he was probably dumped when no longer needed, forced to fend for himself on the streets.

The dog is now named Pancake and has left his life of fighting behind. He traded in his chain for a big backyard to run and play in.
Perez says that although Pancake was in pretty bad shape, he’s seen many dogs who were way closer to death and still made a full recovery.

Despite everything Pancake has been through, you’d never know it. He is such a happy, playful dog who loves people and belly rubs. He is now living with Perez while he heals inside and out.
