Locked In A Shed For A Decade, Pony’s Hooves Were So Long She Could Barely Walk

A Shetland pony and a horse were locked away in a shed in Belgium for nearly a decade. The owner finally decided to turn them over to authorities, but by that time, they were on the brink of death.

They were starving, and the pony’s hooves were so overgrown that he could barely walk. The pony, Poly, and horse, Everest, were taken in by a sanctuary called Animaux en Peril.

The first thing they did was bring in a blacksmith to help cut down Poly’s painful overgrown hooves. It was a long process, but they were successful. Sadly, Poly’s joints may have suffered permanent damage, so it’s possible she will always have a little trouble walking. But now that her hooves are normal length, she will definitely be in less pain.

Both Poly and Everest both received much-needed baths and grooming to rid of the dirt and lice that covered their neglected bodies. Not only did they look a lot better, but they felt it too. They never have to worry about being neglected ever again and can now spend their days roaming the green grasses at the sanctuary with the other ponies and horses.
