20 Things All Labrador Owners Must Never Forget

One of the best dogs for children of all ages, Labrador Retrievers are kindly, good-natured, and take most things in stride.

Most Labrador Retrievers are very friendly with everyone, though compared to Golden Retrievers, many Labs are just a bit more conservative with their affections.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Labrador Retrievers are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Lab owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Labrador owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. I did all of these things with you, Fraser, though #20 was the hardest. I had the vet crying right along with me. And I will do all of these with my lab/terrier mix that I have now. Bailey, just know that #20 will break my heart again. Fraser thanks for letting me know that it was okay that I adopted Bailey. You weren’t replaced, I just needed more love when you were gone.

  2. We treat him like he is a human … sundays are all his … road trips he is watching a field full of blue herons… Gabriel is a memory of our old girl ♡ he was spoiled befor we even meet him 😉

  3. Max was 14 years and 9 months old when he died. The night before that, I could tell the end was near. I petted him non-stop for about two hours, before I went to bed, telling him over and over what a great friend and wonderful companion he had been, and if he wanted to go, it was alright. When I got home from work the next evening, he was already gone, but still warm. I’m still sorry I wasn’t there to share his last moments. I wrapped hom in a blanket, and took him for his last trip to the vet. That was 10 years ago, and it brings tears to my eyes, just to tell his story.

  4. # 20 is the most important one, it was one the hardest things I ever did, but I will do it again with both of my current Labs. Loved all of our dogs “Sport”, “Bimbo, “Spooky”. Your all missed, especially Spooky my favorite and smartest dog ever.

  5. Number 20 is the hardest thing. My 1st lab was almost 15 and it tore me to pieces. Then we had a mother and daughter labs that left us at the same time and the young vet was almost crying as much as we were. Murfey, Blondie and May you are missed.
