Veteran Reads Letter Dedicated To His Service Dog Who Saved His Life. This Will Have You In Tears!

In 2005, Randy was serving as a combat-medic in Iraq, when his unit was hit with an IED (improvised explosive device – an explosive device often used in unconventional warfare). This event haunted Randy and contributed to his Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) when he returned to civilian life.

Back in the U.S., Randy had constant thoughts of suicide and “felt like a prisoner in [his] own home.”

That was, until he got Captain, a service dog that was paired with Randy as part of the K9s for Warriors program.

Randy compares Captain to his unit in Iraq: “just like my battle buddies were my eyes and ears in Iraq, you are my eyes and ears in the states,” he says in the video.

Captain helps Randy with mobility, anxiety, and nightmares, in addition to being a joy for his children and family.

“I have an amazing life now, because of you. You saved my life man,” Randy says.

  1. We all fight battles, I think so many people underestimate the power of a dog. I know my little cocker spaniel Charlie, just lifts my spirit every day without knowing how valued his companionship is. Dogs serve in many ways for various needs. All dogs lift our spirits amazing isn’t it.
