Dog Food Delivered After Dogs Pass Away. Upon Refund Request, Company Sent This Reply

Most corporations are often accused to be cold-hearted and after only one thing – profit. But one company is proving that need not be the case, and in the process, it is touching the hearts of thousands of people across the country.

Laura Waltenburg’s sister and brother-in-law had recently lost both their dogs on the same weekend. Losing a pet can be just as devastating as losing a child. Imagine losing both your pets at the same time.

At such tragic times, any words and actions of kindness go a long way in helping to cope with the loss. So when the couple received the two 40-pound bags of dog food they had ordered before their dogs passed away, they wrote back to the company, hoping for a refund on the bags. The company responded in the most touching way.

This is how the events unfolded, according to Laura in this Facebook post:

My sister and brother-in-law tragically lost both of their dogs this past weekend. After this happened, they received two 40-pound bags of dog food that they had ordered from the Chewy company. My brother-in-law sent them an email requesting permission to send the dog food back for a refund, minus the shipping cost. They responded with unbelievable kindness! They credited their credit card for the full purchase price; and asked them to donate the dog food to a local shelter. They sent a second email requesting a picture of one of the dogs to put in their memorial book, to honor her. And then today, my sister and brother-in-law received these beautiful flowers from Chewy. I wish I could tell everybody this story… This is an incredible company!

At a time of great loss, this company showed much-needed empathy and compassion. Apparently, this is not the first time Chewy has done something like this. Caring for their pet customers has always been part of their culture.

As this post went viral with over 11,000 shares, other people started sending in stories of kindness that Chewy showed to them and their pets.

Another person posted this screenshot of their conversation with Chewy after they had lost their 17-year-old dog:

At times when corporate greed is overshadowing corporate goodness, it’s heartening to see companies like Chewy taking the lead and showing the world that running a business and caring about people (and pets) need not be mutually exclusive.
