Police officer finds four-week-old kitten in dumpster — makes “heartwarming decision” to change the cat’s life

Sometimes animals come into our lives in unexpected ways, and we know right away that it’s destined to be.

That was the case when one police officer made a surprising, heartbreaking discovery inside a dumpster recently — and made an inspiring decision that changed everything.

According to a Facebook post from the North Charleston Police Department, Ptl. Dontavis Jones was working off-duty when he discovered something unexpected in a dumpster: a four-week-old kitten.

It’s not clear whether the kitten was intentionally thrown out or if it was a stray, but the officer knew he had to help.

In an act of compassion, he brought the kitten to the Charleston Animal Society for a health check. It does not appear that the cat has any medical issues, and he was placed up for adoption.

But after saving the kitten’s life, Officer Jones decided to go a step further. Reportedly “touched by the kitten’s plight,” the officer decided to adopt the cat himself!

The kitten, now named Tabby Rashard Jones, is now safe at home with Officer Jones. Many people commented on the story, thanking the police officer for his compassion, and saying that the two were destined to be together.

“Officer looks so happy! Cat distribution system working again,” one comment reads. “Hope the little guy enjoys his much deserved future with his new dad.”

“We are so grateful for our First responders especially Officer Jones for not only being a hero for also opening his heart and home to an animal in need!” the Charleston Animal Society wrote. “Welcome home Tabby Rashard Jones! We know you are in loving hands.”

Thank you to Officer Jones for rescuing and adopting this sweet cat! Please share this heartwarming story! 😸❤️
