18-Year-Old Blind Dachshund Dumped At Shelter Clings To The First Person Who Makes Her Feel Safe

Muneca, an 18-year-old blind Dachshund, was surrendered to an animal shelter, leaving her alone and terrified. Now, she didn’t have a home, her vision, or someone to love her.

A volunteer named Elaine Seamans went to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center in Los Angeles to visit Muneca, and was the first person to really show her love. Muneca leapt right into her arms and clung to her, never wanting to be put down.

Photographer John Hwang was on his way to a photography shoot when he saw Seamans and Muneca. He snapped a picture of them, which was eventually posted online and went viral. The photograph showed Seamans holding Muneca in her arms, with Muneca clinging tightly to her.

They wanted whoever saw the picture to feel a connection to it, and to feel the same way Seamans did. And it worked. A rescue group called the Frosted Faces Foundation saw the photo and wanted to get Muneca out of the shelter immediately. They took her at the veterinarian and then placed her into a foster home.

  1. Over the last 20 years or so my wife and I have spent some serious dollars helping our canine family get over as many health issues as possible. In the end we lost 3 labs, a Siberian Husky Mix and a Dachshund to incurable issues but we gave them all the help we could. Recently our now 9 year old male dachshund Gus herniated 2 disks in his back and was paralyzed until he had spinal surgery. He has recovered to about 85% of normal since surgery in 2016. It is great to have him back. The 2 Labs and 2 Dachshunds we currently have our part of our everyday lives and they enrich them so we can understand why people like those in the story do what they do. We can’t understand people who throw away their canine companions like dirty laundry.

  2. I lost 3 of my Doxie (plus my husband) this year. I cannot read that article. If she found a home, thank God, if not, I will take her, I’m in Sikeston Mo. I couldn’t let her be alone and unwanted. For Hippi, Snoopy and Will.

  3. So sorry for all your loses this year. Please know that our pets souls do not die and they are still close to you in your heart. There is a wonderful book called PETS TELL THE TRUTH that might be of some comfort to you. The best remedy for *me would to go fill up the house with more love. I have a house full of pets, yet when it is time for one to move on, I know they are cradled in the arms of angels and still in my heart. Then I find another soul who needs a home and bring them in.

  4. So if you were elderly and alone. Couldn’t manage your own self. Your children and grandchildren had forsaken you. You had no friends and absolutely no one to lean on, I guess I could understand. If that is not you then you are a selfish smuck!
