Muneca, an 18-year-old blind Dachshund, was surrendered to an animal shelter, leaving her alone and terrified. Now, she didn’t have a home, her vision, or someone to love her.

A volunteer named Elaine Seamans went to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center in Los Angeles to visit Muneca, and was the first person to really show her love. Muneca leapt right into her arms and clung to her, never wanting to be put down.

Photographer John Hwang was on his way to a photography shoot when he saw Seamans and Muneca. He snapped a picture of them, which was eventually posted online and went viral. The photograph showed Seamans holding Muneca in her arms, with Muneca clinging tightly to her.

They wanted whoever saw the picture to feel a connection to it, and to feel the same way Seamans did. And it worked. A rescue group called the Frosted Faces Foundation saw the photo and wanted to get Muneca out of the shelter immediately. They took her at the veterinarian and then placed her into a foster home.

I have an 11 year old dachshund that was dumped at a shelter a friend called and told me. He fits right in with my little heard. I have a total of 4 now and I loved every each one the same. It makes me sad that people raise a dog from birth then just through it away when it gets old.

I just had to look at the story of this beautiful little animal again. She no doubt has given all her heart with love for all her life and then was cruelly cast aside in her old age. This wonderful little creature deserved so much more than this after a life of unselfish devotion. They love their humans even more than they love themselves. That picture of her cuddling and wrapping her little legs around someone just wanting comfort goes right to the heart. I’m glad she found someone who will appreciate her for the wonderful little dog she is and is willing to allow her to love again.
