He Thinks No One’s Watching When He Kneels Over Old Dog, But Millions Of People Comment Online

In May 2016, KHOU.com producer Doug Delony went jogging through Discovery Green park in Houston. Something there grabbed his attention, so he snapped a photo. He had no clue the image would go viral and touch the hearts of millions of strangers across the world.

Doug’s picture showed a man kneeling over an elderly dog. There was a baby stroller by his side… but no baby. The man had no idea he was being photographed.

Doug shared the image on Facebook, writing:

“Most afternoons, I take a run through Discovery Green, and most afternoons I see this guy with a stroller but no baby. He brings this beautiful… what appears to be… disabled pup to the park. He lets it sit in the grass and take in the smell and the sound. Here he is giving it water out of a small cup he brings with him.”

Readers wanted to know more about the dog, so Doug did some investigating. The dog’s name is Maximilian, aka Max, and he was 16 years old at the time. He’d been with his mom Edie ever since he was a puppy.

Max was blind in one eye and had severe arthritis, but his family couldn’t have loved him any more. Every day, Edie and her husband Troy put Max in his baby stroller, walked to the park, and watched their old friend “come alive.”

“I don’t think you should just turn your back on someone just because they’re elderly,” Edie told KHOU. “I think they deserve our love and our care and our attention. And there is so much we can learn from them even as they get older.”

Max passed away in June 2017, but not before leaving an incredible legacy behind.

    How beautiful these people are to treat this beautiful dog so wonderful, I’m sure he Max gave them many happy and wonderful days in the past, God bless them all,what great parents they would make. ❤️ you all………

    My husband and I had 2 poodles at one time, they are Rufus that we still have he is 16 years old now he is blind and has seizures like 1or2 a week &trouble with his joints. Then there was Maxers wish we got for our granddaughter Samantha but she was in school and was busy a lot so Maxers was with us most of the time, then when he was about 4 years old he lost his ability to control his back legs and he would drag them and take off runner and dragging his back legs and barking. Then he just started using his back legs again after lots of PT on his back legs & meds & laser treatment, we had him for 2 more years then he woke up in my bed and was crying & only could move his head, I tried to pick up and he yelped and I couldn’t pick him up so we gave him meds for the pain and I lay in bed with him for awhile & he would look at me for help & we knew we couldn’t help him so my husband took him to the vet and they said he had lost use from his neck down and he was hurting so bad so David stayed with him and held Maxers till he was gone& he brought him home and we buried him in the backyard and we still haven’t gotten over our little Maxers
