The Saugus Police Department announced on Facebook last Wednesday that one of their own had sadly been diagnosed with untreatable cancer.
K-9 Bruin, an active member of their department for the past eight years, was honored by his brothers in blue with one final ride through the streets that he loved to patrol and selflessly protect.

Unfortunately, Bruin’s health had been deteriorating and the cancer was a very aggressive form, which was causing him pain and discomfort.
“How do you say “Job Well Done” to a great partner, a great friend and a brother officer?” Saugus Police wrote on Facebook.

They thought this sendoff would be a great way to thank him for all that he has done for them, before he was put down. Hundreds of people lined the streets with signs and pictures of Bruin to thank him as he patrolled the community one last time.
Neighboring police departments also assisted with the final ride, and all first responders stood with their hands over their hearts waving the thin blue line flag as Bruin rode by.

“Bruin maintains a special place in the hearts of all our members and the Saugus Community as a whole,” Saugus Police Patrol Officer’s Union wrote on Facebook.
Bruin lived with his handler, Officer Tim Fawcett, his wife, and their three kids, who have all worked hard to keep Bruin as comfortable as possible during his final days.

The Fawcett’s put out the following statement:
“We would like to thank each and everyone one of you during this most difficult time. From the calls, the texts, the cards, the visits to our home, the citizens who lined the streets of three towns and the brothers and sisters who escorted Bruin on his final ride. We never imagined a tribute like this. It was simply and truly amazing to see the outpouring of sympathy and love showed to us. Bruin touched so many lives in so many different ways and he will never be forgotten. Rest Easy Good Boy, Your watch is over.”
