Jake Gyllenhaal saves a loose dog from traffic: ‘He really was a hero’

Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal makes for a great bad guy on screen, from Nightcrawler to Spider-Man: Far From Home, but in real life he’s certainly proven to be a hero.

That’s what people are saying this week after the actor rushed to save a loose dog who nearly got into a traffic accident.

The incident occurred last Thursday morning in New York City. As Page Six reported, a three-foot white spotted dog—originally said to be a Dalmatian, though The Cut says it’s more likely a Great Dane—got loose from his owner and ran off.

The big dog ended up in the middle of the busy street, frozen still.

“It was like the dog was in shock or something,” one eyewitness source said.

But one man stepped into the scene and started trying to lure the dog back to safety. Onlookers were shocked to discover that it was Jake Gyllenhaal.

Gyllenhaal left the woman he was with and walked into the traffic to get the dog. He stopped traffic to get the stranded animal to safety.

Soon, the dog was back with its owner, scared but totally unharmed. Gyllenhaal reportedly calmed down the dog, and even talked to the owner about leash types that could prevent this from happening again.

“He really was a hero,” the witness told Page Six.

It was a moment of real-life heroism straight out of a movie, but it’s no surprise that Gyllenhaal has a way with dogs, or that he’d go out of his way to help one.

The actor has two of his own dogs, both of whom share names with To Kill a Mockingbird characters: a puggle named Boo Radley and a German shepherd Atticus.

“I love dogs, I just love them,” Gyllenhaal told W Magazine. “They are so playful. I think they bring that out in us, if we allow it. I don’t think I’m that playful, generally. I need to be reminded of it. So, they remind me of that.”

Let’s thank Jake Gyllenhaal for saving the day and going out of his way to save a dog! Share this great story!
