German Shepherd No One Wanted Smells Gas And Saves Entire Family

Greta the German Shepherd was crying and whining at 3 a.m. Her owner, Ken Walsh, had no idea why his dog wasn’t sleeping. The man went to quiet his dog down, but she just would not settle.

Greta continued to make a fuss and wanted her owner to come into the kitchen. Walsh was baffled but he went along with Greta.

At that moment, he smelled something bad. It was the odor of propane.

The man got out of the house along with his wife and their 14-year-old son. He credits the dog with saving their lives.

In an amazing twist of fate, Greta was a rescue dog that the family adopted. The dog didn’t have a home prior due to behavioral issues. Walsh is a dog trainer and is starting a nonprofit for animals in need.

He told DelawareOnline.com, “All it would have taken was a spark. It was very scary after I got a chance to sit down and think about it.”

It was later discovered the propane stove was leaking gas into the air. It is likely one of the family’s five dogs bumped the stove when jumping up for a treat.

Walsh gave Greta a steak and a treat. He encourages folks to rescue an animal from a shelter. Way to go, Greta!
