Hospital Changes No-Pets Rule For A Day, Allows Dying Grandpa To Say Goodbye To His Dog

Most hospitals have a no-pets-allowed policy to protect patients from allergens and other infections. But sometimes, under special circumstances, hospitals do break this rule, even if it’s for a brief while.

70-year-old Peter Robson was lying in his deathbed when he made a dying wish to his family. He wanted to see his Border Collie, Shep, one last time. Peter had taken Shep in 8 years ago when Shep was just a little puppy, and Shep had been with Peter ever since, providing Peter with much comfort and love, especially since Peter’s wife passed away.

When the family conveyed this last wish to the NHS Ninewells Hospital staff, they were pleasantly surprised that the staff was happy to accommodate his wish.

Shep was brought in and Peter got to say an emotional goodbye to his friend one last time. We can hear the family members crying as they witness this goodbye, and we know how much this meant to all of them, especially to Peter and Shep.

Peter passed away just hours after saying goodbye to Shep. We thank the hospital staff and Peter’s family for acting in such a kind and timely manner and granting the kind man and his dog the farewell they so truly deserved.
