Dog Nervously Watches Grandma Perform ‘Surgery’ On His Favorite Toy

Dogs love their toys—and many of them get attached to one particular plaything. As many pet owners can attest, you can treat your dog to all the toys they want and they’ll still cling to one old raggedy doll they’ve had since they were a puppy.

Of course, dogs are also known to play pretty rough, which means that those toys don’t hold up for too long. And when they finally wear out their favorite plaything, it can be a challenge to find a perfect replacement.

But when one dog wore down his favorite chew toy, his grandma came to the rescue, performing an emergency “surgery” in front of him.

A dog named Draco is very attached to one unusual plaything: a pillow, which he has sucked on to get to sleep every night since he was a pup, according to his owner Alexandra O’Cain.

He’s grown so attached to the pillow over the years, and has also gotten quite protective of it.

“If anyone else picks up his pillow he will dart over and grab it,” Alexandra told The Dodo.

So when another dog wanted to play with Draco’s pillow, he ran to grab it… but, after years of wear and tear, he accidentally ripped it apart.

Needless to say, Draco was pretty worried about his favorite toy. Luckily, Alexandra’s mother stepped in to sew it back up. “Thank GOD for doggie grandmas,” Alexandra wrote.

It was as simple as stitching it up with a sewing machine… but for Draco, it was a tense life-or-death scenario for his prized possession.

Draco watched on with bated breath, sticking his head over the table to keep an eye on the pillow: “He acted as if his wife was in surgery,” Alexandra wrote on Facebook.

Luckily, the “surgery” was a success, and Draco was reunited with his pillow. Alexandra says they’re prepared to sew the pillow as long as the dog needs it.

It’s a cute, funny story, and one that reminds us how emotionally intuitive dogs can be. They can develop strong attachment to certain sentimental items just like people, and have a good understanding of what’s going on.

“People who think dogs have no feelings or thoughts are dead wrong,” Alexandra wrote.

We’re glad the “surgery” was a success and this good dog can keep sleeping peacefully with his favorite pillow!
