The Stray Rescue of St. Louis received a call from their local fire department regarding a dog who was on a roof.
Temperatures were at a dangerous low, so they knew they had to rescue this pup as soon as possible. When rescuers arrived at the house, they realized it was abandoned with no one living there. They climbed the stairs and finally made it to the top after several flights.

The house was in bad shape, disheveled and filthy, so it was obvious that it had been abandoned for quite some time. Once rescuers were in the top room they coaxed him back inside through the window so that firefighters could close the window from outside to prevent him from going back on the roof.
As rescuers got closer to him, the dog tried to escape, but panicked once he realized that the window was no longer open.

Even though the poor pup was terrified, he eventually accepted a treat from rescuers. But he still didn’t realize that they were here to help him because as soon as they brought a leash out, he backed away and began barking at them.
Eventually, they managed to get the leash on him and brought him out of the house. As they got a better look at him in their car, they realized just how bad his condition was.

In addition to being emaciated and dehydrated, his body was covered in scars and open wounds. He was also wearing a collar with studs. This led rescuers to believe that he was not always a stray dog but was once used for dog-fighting.
They decided to name him Chucho and promised him that his pain and fighting was now a thing of the past. He’s now safe and never has to worry about being hurt ever again.
