Two Dogs Die After Woman Holds Them Captive In A Room For 6 Months Without Food

Deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the residence of a Hobart woman on reports of animal neglect.

It was an exceedingly spine-chilling moment for the deputies as they discovered 2 emaciated dead dogs in one of the bedrooms. A third dog was found in another bedroom – alive but significantly malnourished.

As the deputies investigated further, they learned that the 2 deceased dogs had been held captive in that single wretched bedroom for the past 6 months.

It was evident that they had been deprived of adequate food, proper water or the necessary veterinary care all this time.

The owner, 40-year-old Bonnie J. Tanner, has voluntarily surrendered the surviving dog to the animal control officers.

But keeping in mind the skeletal dog’s compromised health and complicated recovery, he has now been transferred under the care of the Delaware County Humane Society. The dog is to be evaluated and treated at the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society.

Based on the initial findings, Bonnie was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals for failing to provide proper food and sustenance.

However, she was later released after being issued an appearance ticket. Her hearing will take place in the Stamford Town Court within a few days.
