Rescues Work Together To Save 60 Pups From Dog Meat Trade Before Slaughter

China Rescue Dogs, a non-profit organization that rescues pups from the dog meat trade, is now trying to find forever homes for 60 dogs who have recently been saved.

The dogs are currently still in China while the organization raises enough money to cover the travel costs of all 60 dogs, who will be transported to JFK Airport in New York City via two cargo planes.

They are in a rush to transport the dogs to the United States before the Chinese New Year, when the country will shut down for the entire month of February.

“For their survival, we have to get as many out as possible,” Jill Stewart, the president and founder of China Rescue Dogs, told People. “I don’t want to think about what will happen to those dogs if we have to turn some back.”

They still need to raise $14,000 to ensure that all of the dogs will be transported to the states, and they’re now turning to the public for help and asking for donations.

“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever,” Ryan McDonnell, vice president of China Rescue Dogs, said. “This is my favorite quote. It truly does encapsulate our mission and organization.”

Once the dogs arrived in the United States, they will be brought to vet clinics for examinations and whatever treatments they need, before being put up for adoption to find the perfect homes for them.

In the past year, despite travel restrictions due to covid-19, the organization still managed to place dozens of dogs with loving families, and have no plan of stopping anytime soon.
