There is not enough lean protein in most homemade dog food recipies for Boxers. Boxers need 50 to 60 % o their diet to be lean meat.

We have been making our own dog food for the last eight years. It includes roasted white chicken meat, sweet potatoes, brown rice, and peas and carrots. Note that it is very important for schnauzers to have a low-fat, low-protein diet because of their propensity towards pancreatitis and diabetes. Our dogs get two ounces of this mixture twice a day, served over low-calorie kibble (Royal Canin Weight Care). They are the perfect weight and have been in perfect health.
