20 Things All German Shepherd Owners Must Never Forget

With handsome good looks, the German Shepherd was an original canine movie star before the breed became popular police and military dogs.

One of the most capable and trainable breeds in all of dogdom, exceedingly eager to learn and work, a German Shepherd, when well-trained by a confident owner, is a magnificent companion.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, German Shepherds are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all German Shepherd owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome German Shepherd owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. We have had several German Shepherds and loved all of them. Our last one, Buddy, lived to be 13 yrs old and was as protective and loving then as when he was a pup. Sheperds are tops!!

  2. i always have german shepherds and I always have two together, i am absolutely obsessed with these dogs, I lost one to cancer in 2014 and I felt as if my heart had been ripped out I still have Sasha who is my world i love her to bits she’s 8 now, we have a shepherd/husky cross as her doggy companion whom we rescued from living wild when my other shepherd died. They love each other and are my reasons to get up in the mornings. I love my dogs

  3. “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good Life — like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long” very true

  4. I’ve been a Bouvier des Flandres owner and trainer for over 30 yrs. I now have 2 shepherds who are outstanding dogs in work and temperment. Their is a reason why they are reknown for their work in all areas. It is much the same as with the Bouvier, Once you have a German Shepherd you won’t want anything else.

  5. I just put my oldest baby down. My son and I laid on the floor with her the whole time and cried..My other shep came also, just so he would know what happened, not that she left and didnt come home. When her heart stopped, he just laid his head on the floor. Its the worst part of owning a dog, but the kindest thing you can do for them. Miss you Tyr hope your running at the bridge with Thunder waiting for us.

  6. My vet always says when they stop doing 3 of the things they love most, it is time. My Tyr never stopped, but her rear legs gave out from her hip dysplasia. She still drug herself around to get to me, it was brutal to watch, it happened suddenly so I had day till I could get her to her regular vet. and I know she was in pain also, for a lot of years, but she was stubborn. Was a really hard decision. Its only been a week and Im still crying.
