20 Things All Dachshund Owners Must Never Forget

Curious, lively, charming, and brave, Dachshunds are similar to terriers in their demands to be in on everything.

The comical clowns love to play games and have a great sense of humor. They are loyal little dogs, very attached to their family, and they firmly believe that sleeping under the bedcovers is in the Dachshund Bill of Rights.

It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Dachshunds are no exception!

But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Doxie owners must never forget.

If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Wiener dog owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

  1. When I have to go to the hospital for procedures there are people I know that work there but it sure would feel a lot better if my husband could be there with me. Instead he has extreme anxiety when he goes to places like that so I have to go alone. If I ever manage to get a dog I will never let it go through something like that along I don’t care how many loving people it knows will be there.

  2. Well you’re a jerk for judging me on what was best for me… Were you there with me, up for three days because I didn’t want to leave her side? Were you there when I couldn’t get out of bed for a week because all I could do was cry? Did you pay $10,000 trying to save my dog’s life? Did you give her, her meds that had to be shoved down her throat 3 times a day? Did you clean up her diarrhea and vomit after her chemo sessions? Yeah I don’t remember you Martha Meyer being there for any of that… It is morbid to HAVE to watch your dog die to feel like you honored and loved your animal. I love that dog more than anything in this world, if I had to be homeless to get her back I’d give everything I have up. She had an amazing life and I personally couldn’t have that image in my mind because it was too painful. My vet suggested that I don’t be there because I was already basically fainting from the situation and even now my heart is broken like it’s never been before. So after all that, if you still have a negative opinion about my decision then you, my friend are evil and have zero empathy for another human being that last their best friend. I’m sure you’re the type of person that has a million opinions about everybody else but really doesn’t know jack. And by the way, maybe you should get a dog first and walk in my shoes before you go assuming you know how it feels. Now kindly take a short walk off a long pier or play in traffic. Either is fine… Buh bye now

  3. So true. My micky is 13.5. Can’t c well or hear well. But he sure loves everyone in our family. …never had a dog this long. It hurts my heart every time I think of our farewell. ….

  4. This is Myles he is almost 2 I feel like the time is flying by. I had a black lab growing up we had to put him down when he was 14 it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. For the longest time I couldn’t get another dog just because I didn’t want to have to say goodbye. But I’m so grateful for my little buddy Myles helped me through some hard times and continues to help me when I’ve had a bad day. I love coming home and seeing him.
