Often called a “sporting toy breed” because of his combination of spaniel and toy traits, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is sweet-tempered, playful, and gentle.
Though they do have a mild independent streak, Cavaliers are willing to please and respond well to praise and encouragement . . . and treats!
The Cavalier is eager to meet everyone who crosses his path, and if that person sits down and offers a lap (or a treat), so much the better.
It’s been often said that dogs are the only creatures on earth that love you more than they love themselves. Well, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are no exception!
But sometimes, we take our furry friends and wonderful companions for granted. There are important life lessons that are sometimes easy to forget in our hectic lives, that all Basset Hound owners must never forget.
If we want to pay back the favor and give them the best life possible, these 20 important reminders should serve you well as awesome Cavalier King Charles Spaniel owners. The last one (#20) brought me to tears…

Yep. Number 20 made me cry. My peppie had cronic heart failure at 14 years old. He had heart attack after heart attack. The vets tried everything they could. In the end i had to make the hard decion (i was only 13). Staying by his side untill his last breath, as he stayed by my side those few years we had him, i knew he left this world feeling love. He didn’t want to die and was holding on, but i couldn’t see him go through more pain.
