As a responsible dog owner, it's critical to know what you can and can't feed your dog. Is it enough to just stick with a decent doggy diet?

Nope. There's a ton of foods you probably didn't know about that can actually be really bad for your dog, including some that are perfectly healthy for humans.

There's nothing worse than having your dog suffer over a simple mistake in diet. While they're still man's best friend, they probably shouldn't eat like your best friend.

    So for sure no raisins, grapes, onions, garlic or anything in onion family. These will not kill dogs right away but eventually lead to kidney failure. And dark chocolate is far worse than milk or white chocolate. Baking chocolate is bad too. This is because it contains theobromine which is toxic for dogs. So basically the darker the chocolate the worse it is. And when it comes to food toxicity in dogs that’s about it.

    My dads hunting dogs were fed Purina dog chow along with whatever was left on the table after we finished eating. They especially loved their chow with pot liquor poured over it. They were fine and could run down a deer all day.

    You’re right Ian, but the products like cheese, milk and bacon being harmful to our dogs is new for us. While we do not go overboard with these items we are going to be a little more cautious in the,amounts we do give them.

    We did Not know grapes could be so dangerous to our pug. We fed her them regularly, then our grape vines ripened and we couldn’t find her. We followed them sound of our grape eating dog, she ate every grape she could reach. So lucky it doesn’t harm her. My son, not so lucky. His dog ate a few grapes and had a horrible reaction.

    The only ones I didn’t know about was apple core n bacon but he’s never had an apple core. He hardly ever eats our food anymore mainly his Sunday roast. As u know he loves his veg. No tea no coffee. All stopped ages ago n he’s been well ever since apart from yesturday morning xx

    Exactly, I have one of my dogs loves ice cream and milk, but he doesn’t get it all the time given as a treat every so often ain’t bad, our other dog, yeah she gets an upset stomach so she may be lactose intolerant, I think these articles are mainly aimed at perhaps don’t really care what there dog eats and when it gets it and how often

    When it comes to chocolate the dark or bakers chocolate is what is the worse, milk chocolate not so much, I believe it also depends on the dog (just like humans they can have a reaction to certain foods

    I always google something if I’m not sure and I look at several different sites to find out, some things in moderation are ok to be fed as a treat mcdonalds ain’t good for us but we don’t eat it every day do we? same thing with dogs
