As a responsible dog owner, it's critical to know what you can and can't feed your dog. Is it enough to just stick with a decent doggy diet?
Nope. There's a ton of foods you probably didn't know about that can actually be really bad for your dog, including some that are perfectly healthy for humans.
There's nothing worse than having your dog suffer over a simple mistake in diet. While they're still man's best friend, they probably shouldn't eat like your best friend.
To see the detailed list of ‘The 12 Human Foods That Could Kill Your Dog’, including what chemicals these foods contain what they can do, go to the next page:

Dog food is a relatively recent invention. Before the 40s, when the idea became more common, dogs largely lived on table scraps and what their owners cooked for them. I remember my mom’s 1940s dog books that actually included recipes.
If owners are careful home cooked food is quite doable. I have acquaintances with show dogs who prefer to cook or feed raw diets. Their dogs are beautiful and healthy.

I remember a vet telling my mom 25ish years ago that avocados were good for a dogs coat. And we feed our dog cheese all the time! He prefers it over dog treats even.

There are plenty of vegetables, fruits and meats you can supplement a kibble fed dog with to give them variety. I feed a grain free kibble but also feed raw beef or venison bones, gizzards, yams, carrots, green beans, bananas ect throughout the week.

That could kill is what the start of this says. . .. my little Stafford lived to 20 and did l must admit love the odd grape…had cheese…as she got old weetabix/milk she loved she had scraps that contained onion and garlic is leftover bolgnese but in her 20 years she only went to vet four times.. she didn’t however eat anything sweet…no cakes biscuits chocolate etc ever!!! She wanted it.. .but on her way out of this world she had everything she always looked pleadingly at…while my little girl was being put to sleep she had cakes and chocolate digestives she loved them and bless her she died with a forbidden item in her mouth a big chocolate digestive…..l had two bullmastiffs that also had the same treats on their journey out of this world.. it also took theirs and my mind off the sadness of the preparation of what was going to happen…..oh dammit have made myself cry now……

That’s an excellent question since the first commercial pet food didn’t come out until 1923, the year my mother was born. I discovered that fact while doing research on my mother’s birth year for a presentation as part of her birthdy
