Imagine that one day the only family you’ve ever known suddenly moves to a new country, leaving you behind. That was the reality for one senior cat, who was abandoned and left with a broken heart after her owner moved away.
Now, this sweet tabby is looking for a new home…
The Humane Society for Hamilton County, in Indiana, shared the story of Stormy, a 1-year-old black-and-brown tabby cat who has been through a lot lately and wants nothing more than a loving home.
Stormy was raised by a family since she was a kitten, but when she was almost 8 years old, the family moved to another country — leaving Stormy behind.
After the heartbreak of losing the only home she’s ever known, things didn’t get any easier. She reportedly had a “tumultuous year” in which she was passed from “place to place” and became even more stressed.
In addition, Stormy suffered from discomfort and health problems. At 22.5 pounds, she was very overweight and had diabetes. She was also declawed when she was younger, a painful procedure now banned in many places that can lead to chronic pain and behavioral issues.
However, Stormy has overcome a lot of her difficulties recently. She was set up with a caring foster mom who helped her shed weight and manage her diabetes: she’s now down to 15.5 pounds and her blood sugar is in check.
Now, Stormy is looking for a forever home of her own. The Humane Society for Hamilton County writes that she has a positive demeanor even after everything she’s been through: despite her name she is “neither gloomy nor unpredictable” and “100% friendly and affectionate.”
They also write that she is “learning to trust again” and would do best in a quiet home with someone who will take the time to earn her trust.
