Rottweiler

Large and muscular, it is believed the Rottweiler lineage could go all the way back to the herding dogs of the Roman empire.

However, we do know for sure that this breed was used to herd and guard livestock in Germany.

Whether it's their home or a flock of animals, overall, they are often unsure of new people and strangers which can bring out that protective instinct.

Combine that with their sheer size and that's a pretty intimidating dog.
