When the temperatures drop, dogs need to come inside. If you disobey the law in Indianapolis, Indiana, you’ll be ticketed and fined. Indianapolis gets very cold in the winter months, and dog owners are being advised that those who break this law will pay the price.

Dog houses need to have moisture-wicking bedding when it hits 40 degrees outside. Simply leaving your dog outside and hoping they stay warm in a dog house is not the answer. If the temperature falls below 20 degrees or a wind chill advisory is issued, then pets must come inside.

According to one animal control officer who talked to FoxNews59, frostbite is a huge thing that can come on fast. Another animal control officer believes most people have the best interest of their animals in mind. He also believes those same people may not know exactly how much cold weather can affect their pets being kept outside.

For breaking the law, residents will receive a ticket and be fined up to $200. Violators can be reported in a variety of ways, including the Mayor’s Action Center at 317-327-4622, after hours emergencies at 317-327-3811, and help with supplies or caring for a dog at 317-221-1314.
