Betsy was rescued two years ago in awful condition after having been used as dog bait in a dogfighting ring.
When she arrived at the hospital, she was falling apart, both literally and figuratively. Her body was ripped to shreds, with deep wounds all over. Her body was shaking from being in shock, and she was constantly licking herself to try and stop the pain.

Vets cleaned out her wounds and wrapped them, and started her on a treatment plan. Through months of treatment and eight surgeries, vets never lost hope, and neither did Betsy.

While she didn’t want to fight in the ring anymore, she did want to fight for her life. She proved to be resilient, and all she wanted was to love and be loved in return.

As time went on, she began to walk and wag her tail. As she was healing, it was obvious that Betsy was growing happier. She was an inspiration to all who knew her, and she grabbed the attention of thousands of people who would go and visit her.

Once she was ready, it was time to say goodbye to all of the vets and vet techs who helped save her life. They were sad to see her go, but thrilled that she was starting her new life – a fresh start.

Betsy was adopted by a loving family who provided her with a warm bed, a backyard to run in, and doggy siblings to play with.

For the first time in her life, Betsy got to be a real pet dog and felt so much joy. The scars from her past remain, but those days are far behind her. She’ll never have to worry about being bait ever again!
