Have you ever noticed your dog keeping his eyes on you while he poops? If you're a fan of science, you have probably always wondered why your pets stare at you while they're taking a dump.
Okay, maybe you've never thought about it but, now that we're on the topic, dog scientists (a.k.a. veterinarians) have figured out the reason WHY dogs stare at their owners while defecating.
According to Dr. Kathryn Primm, a practicing small animal veterinarian and practice owner at Applebrook Animal Hospital in Ooltewah, Tennessee, it's not because the dog's embarrassed.

Your dog is not wishing you would look away or give him privacy while he “does his business” either.
Dr. Primm says it goes much deeper than that…
Find out what Dr. Primm has to say about why dogs stare at you when they poop and have one of the world's mysteries answered on the next page.

I always tell my dogs “I got your back” when their pooping

It’s because they’re looking at you for reassurance/protection while they do it – in the wild, there could be predators around that the rest of the pack will watch for while the dog does it’s business. Makes sense when you think about it…

I figure it is because when they are Pups ,We holler “Not There” and then place them on paper or outside ,Would not take many times for the Dog to look to You for approval .

My dog looks at me, sidles as close to me as she can without being right over my foot. Once she’s done her ten thousand times circles and is as close as possible to me, she stops looking at me and finishes her business. This behavior used to make me roll my eyes at her weirdness, then it dawned on me she’s needing to ease her feelings of vulnerability. It just made sense to me that she was expecting me to “shield” her, either for more privacy or protection.
I’ve begun to widen my stance and stand taller while scanning the area. I believe she takes comfort in the fact I’m “in guard” for her.
It’s all about her anyway ’cause I love her to the moon and back and anything I can do for her I do it happily.
I do have one issue with her though… Why on earth does she WAIT to do the grass scratch dance until I bend down to pick up her nuggets… and position herself so she’s throwing it all on me?! No matter how long I wait (thinking she’s going to get her scratch on) she won’t until I bend for her crap plus the making sure I’m behind her so I get covered. It’s rude! :p
