The dog, who was sitting at the bus stop shivering from the cold is living safely thanks to the transport workers who got in time to rescue the dog. A bus passenger found a missing dog at a bus stop in Regina, Saskatchewan, which was experiencing cold weather.
Canadian city transporter Darren Szabo ran to the bus stop to warm up the dog until the Regina Humane Society (RHS) arrived. He told Global News that he is concerned that the dog will get frostbite.
“It was complicated. I knew that extreme temperatures could cause him to lose the tip of his ear or toe in minutes.”
The dog growled in fright when Szabo was going close to the dog, but the dog realized he had come to help when he covered him with a fleece jacket. “He was as frightening as it was cold,” Szabo said.
“If it’s cold, you can always bring another jacket. This dog never had a chance. Regina Humane Society arrived within minutes and the dog was inspected.
“It was not uncommon for dogs to disappear, so we quickly noticed they were missing and called us,” said Lindsay West, RHS COO of the dog owner. Fortunately, the dog recovered completely and did not catch a cold.
RHS has a safe program for people who find dogs stuck in extreme cold. When they wave to the bus, the bus stops to offer help. “It is important to help each other. Whether it’s a small animal in need or a person in need,” – said Szabo.
RHS confirmed the message after sharing a picture of the puppy. “We’ve shown that ‘everyone’, including furry friends, should be safe in the harsh conditions of this cold snap… Everyone out there is safe and warm.”
