They Felt Sorry For Her 7-Year Shelter Stint But Didn’t Do A Thing About It

After spending over seven years in a shelter, Pirate, an 11-year-old dog, had been overlooked time and time again.

Potential adopters would come into the shelter and feel sorry for her, but no one did a thing about it. Her days were lonely. Pirate longed for that special love only a family could provide.

Pirate was losing hope when she finally found her forever home with Jennifer and her husband.

The couple, both military personnel, were stationed in Hawaii and decided to adopt Pirate after Jennifer saw her on the Oahu SPCA website.

Pirate’s age had been a significant obstacle in finding her a family, as people often assume older dogs require more work and care.

However, Jennifer and her husband were determined to give Pirate the love and attention she deserved.

Jennifer began visiting Pirate at the shelter daily, even when the shelter was closed. She would spend hours with Pirate, building trust and forming a bond with the dog.

After two months, Jennifer and her husband finally brought Pirate home. Once in her new home, Pirate began to show a completely different side of herself.

She became more energetic and playful, acting like a puppy despite her age.

Jennifer and her husband call her their “old lady baby” and are committed to making every moment special for Pirate, from her first time on the couch to her first trip to the beach.

Pirate’s adoption has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience for Jennifer and her husband, who have seen firsthand the impact of giving an older dog a chance at a loving home.

The couple hopes that Pirate’s story will inspire others to consider adopting older dogs, as they can be just as loving and enjoyable as younger ones.

Pirate’s journey from a long-term shelter resident to a beloved family member serves as a reminder that every dog, regardless of age, deserves a chance at a happy life.
