The Blair Pug Project: A Vet Student’s Hysterical Synopsis of Trimming a Pug’s Nails

Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.

Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.

Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?

Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!

  1. My fawn was so active his nails were kept short on his own. My black pug(still with me) has hard, HARD black nails and he HATES trimming them. The last time I tried(and sort of succeeded), I had to pin him down in the corner of the sofa, put him in a leg-lock and then he started farting loud and stinky. Now I wait for him to fall hard asleep. I can maybe get 2 done before he wakes up angry. I sometimes have to wait a day or two before I can try this again. Takes a month to do the set, then gotta start over again!

  2. We have and our dogs do great. The key was starting really young. Our vet said get them used to ear cleaning and nail trimming by touching them constantly, squeezing them, orienting them to the tool without actually using so they get used to it.

  3. My groomer sits on the table with her feet on the chair.she lays my pug on his side in her lap.she puts her left elbow against his head.her right elbow against his bottom half and somehow she trims his nails and he never makes a sound
