The Blair Pug Project: A Vet Student’s Hysterical Synopsis of Trimming a Pug’s Nails

Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.

Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.

Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?

Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!

Check out her hysterical synopsis of trimming a pug's nails on the next page:

  1. Wow so glad my pup doesn’t do this he resists some by pulling away halfway through but I usually just “sit” on him when he starts that. And when we start and he hears the grinder he runs to me not away lol

  2. Just trying to get my Morely’s nails clipped is like some sort of contortionist wrestling match where i must pin him down so he cannot move and if I’m lucky I can clip 2 nails. When “all else fails”, he reverts to chemical warfare, launching gas attack after gas attack, be them of the “silent but deadly” or fired with a full on salvo of reverberant tones of release. However, after nearly 13 years, I have figured it out. If I let him stand, I can maneuver the clippers to the nails, then often I can get 1 or 2 at a time, then repeat. I can often get this done in about 10 minutes with minimal fighting.

  3. I use a Dremel tool electric for my pug. He hates the noise of the nail clippers, but has no problem with the noise from the Dremel. Lol. He also love to be vacuumed. He will sit for as long as you keep vacuuming him. That’s his heaven. Lol

  4. What is it about pugs and their nails? I have one that will scream bloody murder if u even touch his feet. I took him in once to get his nails trimmed when he was a year or 2 and I will never do it again. The looks we got and and how scared te poor lady was to do it was enough to never try again. My lord they are such drama queens. Lol

  5. Omg, my loosey goes nuts and tries to bite. It takes two people to do it, one to hold her and one to cut the nails. She gets so mad she tries to breathe fast so I have to stop for a few for her to catch her breath before her tongue turns blue
