Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.
Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.
Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?
Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!
Check out her hysterical synopsis of trimming a pug's nails on the next page:

Reading all your comments has given faith to carry on. Maybe we should try to acquire some chloroform or whatever they use nowadays just to help us humans a bit ( for the doggies not us). I have laughed all over again. They are such little woesies.

I’m reading about people using a dremel to file nails, do pugs not react as badly to using this? My pug screamed like a girl and climbed into my shoulders the wee’d all down me he was that terrified when his nails were getting cut. Even the vet stopped as he was so distressed.

We used to sit our pug down, one would hold him and the other cut is nails, he didn’t really like it, but there were no struggles or screaming, this one was probably scared being held up in the air, they don’t like to be held like that.

My vet has his assistant put my pug on his side on the table and hold him down while he works one foot at a time. It’s not pleasant but it seems to let my baby know he is better off being still. The video in my opinion is a very weak method.

I once had to give my first pug, Doug, eye drops for medical reasons. It would literally take two adults to hold him down and hope that the drops would land somewhere in the vicinity of his eyeball. We used to say that he was stronger than any animal his size. Freakishly, strong!

This is a good synopsis. I remember having my ” Pugzly’s” nails clipped. Dr. Prescribed Ativan 0.5 mg one hour prior to taking him for his ” nail trim”. He was chilled and mellow going to the Vet and I believed he would stay calm. ” Wrong”! Every time the Vet, the Techs and me came out looking like we’d been thru WWIII. Soon as it was over ” Pugzly’s” became his Mellow, chill self again.
