Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.
Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.
Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?
Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!
Check out her hysterical synopsis of trimming a pug's nails on the next page:

Can I share a trick we have discovered works a treat with our pug?
Find a longish block of wood long enough that you can hold it comfortably. Wrap the block in sandpaper. You can train your pug to scratch his/her nails on the sandpaper for treats. Honestly it works! Our boy (who has been banned from every groomer in our area) was a pro at this within an hour and he thinks it’s a game so gets excited when he sees the sandpaper board come out. To start – show the pug the treat and then hold it behind the board, eventually the dog will get frustrated, try and get the treat by scratching the board and you reward them quick! Keep at it until puggy gets the idea. We’ve not looked back. Then it’s just a case of getting those pesky dew class quickly while he’s asleep. No pain, no blood, no upset.

Don’t see why there laughing m, it’s less then funny.. He’s quite clearly distressed and her holing him round the neck probably isn’t helping, I’d not be happy if they done that too my pug…

I like the sandpaper on the block idea! I clip nails while my helper holds a spoon of peanut butter above their head. They look up and lick away with little fuss! Make sure the peanut butter doesn’t have the xylitol in it!!

I laid my pug on her back pet her belly and clipped one paw at a time. I keep talking to her and then I put her on my lap and file her nails. Then she’d get treats!!! She loved it 🙂 I always asked her if she was ready for her puppycure and she’d get all excited!!!

I usually wait until he’s sound asleep, trim a nail, he’s gonna wake up to check what exactly just happened and quickly go back to sleep. Rinse and repeat. Or if your pug is a coward such as mine you’ll only be able to do it once a day since he figures it out and runs away.

I’m laughing so hard because I have a pug that fits this discription! I always warn when I take him in that it takes 3 people and they never believe me…
