The Blair Pug Project: A Vet Student’s Hysterical Synopsis of Trimming a Pug’s Nails

Trimming nails on your Pug is not always a fun job. Some pugs are reluctant, even terrified of getting their nails trimmed.

Some even starts screaming, yelping, and moving around constantly. You fight tooth and nails (no pun intended) to get their nails cut… the ultimate challenge of grit and persistence.

Have you ever experienced the pleasure of trimming a pug's (or any reluctant dog's / animal's) nails?

Well, this 2nd year veterinary student, Roberta who's studying at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University sure can relate!

  1. My little girl once made so much commotion it took 2 vets and 1 vet nurse to trim her nails. Everyone in the waiting room thought my dog had been hit by a car and was in incredible pain because of the noise she was making. They were all in stitches when this small black pug walked out perfectly fine but dramatically exhaled and threw herself on the floor. The vet, once she stopped laughing, explained that my little girl was like a 5 year old and in between screaming fits, would hold her breath…….

  2. I must say that my Pug is good for this nail trimming. I started holding his paws as a pup and got him regularly trimmed. He just went to the vet yesterday and the tech had him clipped in a minute. She even commented on how good he was. I am sure he did shed on everyone!! LOL

  3. Our 11 Year Old Pug Zoe is less then a fan of getting her nails done. She’s fights and squeels even. Usually takes 2 people to get the job done and she looks miserable the entire time.

  4. I have 2 Pugs, Jake the oldest hates nail trimming and baths. Pugsley the youngest loves his nail done and baths. Pugsley will sit on my lap and put his paws out like he’s at a salon. He also loves taking a bath and runs around like a crazy man afterwards. The video is so funny. We use to take Jake to the vets to get his nails trimmed, it took 3 of the vets employees to get his nails done.

  5. although my Pug is not very difficult to trim her nails at the Vets or the groomers…I have been a witness to this behavior in pugs. y daughter and my niece both have pugs that behave as bad or worse than the pug in the video.

  6. It’s comforting to know that my pug D’artagnan isn’t the only one that reacts similiarly to getting his nils trimmed. I either have to get it done by the vet or have one of my son-in-laws trim them while I hold him. He doesn’t yelp but he squirms and moves like crazy!

  7. My pug hates getting his nails trimmed. I hold my pug and have a spoonful of peanut butter and let me lick it while my husband does the nail trimming. It’s a lot easier if they have something to concentrate on!
