Teacup Chihuahua Puppy That Is Dancing All The Time Hides A Sad Truth

Boogie Shoes was turned into the shelter at 8 weeks old. The woman who dropped him off claimed to have found him in a supermarket’s parking lot in 110 degree heat in Palm Springs, California. While that may be true, the region is also known for back yard breeders, which lead the staff at Palm Spring Animal Shelter to believe Boogie’s health problems were a result of poor genetics.

The shelter is a no-kill facility and does its best to re-home special needs dogs, and it soon became clear that Boogie was one.

That’s because the cute puppy always seemed to be dancing. But the reality was far from it. It was clear to the doctors that he had an unknown neurological condition. Boogie was put on foster watch immediately with a woman named Alicia.

Alicia took Boogie to the neurologist who confirmed their fears. Boogie had cerebellar hypoplasia, a neurological condition in which the cerebellum or part of the brain did not fully develop in-utero. This condition could have been caused by genetics, a virus or malnutrition. The condition reveals itself at about six weeks of age and is permanent.

While Boogie is otherwise a healthy pup, he will always have physical limitations. He can’t walk on a leash, play catch or climb stairs.

But despite the sad news, and despite his limitations, Boogie soon became the “boss of the house” in Alicia’s home and became a foster failure, finding his way into the hearts of Alicia’s family! He’s now a much-loved member of her family.

  1. What can we do to halt backyard breeders? Why do these small wonders have to suffer from their greed? I don’t know if the answer is to stop buying from breeders and start getting shelter dogs or not. My baby was born deaf. I’ve had her since she was 4 we

  2. So sad… when a “breeder” continues to breed runts of the littler to get a T-cup , this and more health issues occur. Most you’ll never know about because they are put to death . Stop this madness. They don’t have to weigh a lb to be loved .

  3. My husband got me a baby boy from a breeder … he was so sick I called her and told her … she said her dogs was not sick I just wanted to tell her so she could help for the other babies !!! She still said her dogs was not sick !! So I called and reported her !!!

  4. Seizures and neurological disorders are not cute. When you see your puppy banging its head on the floor , drooling, and loosing control , it so frightening. My poor baby was dropped at a kill shelter because they didn’t want to invest in her health . Boogie Shoes is a disgrace for a name .

  6. Hi Laurie Hoyle I’m Boogie Shoes mom and I just saw your comment. If you have any other questions or feel the need to make any negative comments about Boogie, please message me directly. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about Boogie’s name, quality of life, etc. In fact, I have other Chihuahuas in our pack that are considered “special needs” and I’m happy to discuss their wellbeing with you also. Boogie’s page is a positive place to shine a light on shelter pets & inspire people to adopt.
