Sooty was a stray dog living in De Doorns, South Africa. He was covered in motor oil and had painful, open wounds.
Although he had no home, he remained hidden in the same spot every night. He was terrified of human touch, but perhaps he was just waiting for someone to show him attention.

Finally, his wish came true and Sidewalk Specials rescued him.
Although he was scared and shutting down, rescuers refused to give up on Sooty, and had hope that one day he would break out of his shell.

And that day finally came. Today, Sooty is like a whole new dog. He is playful and friendly and is no longer afraid of people.
He finally realized that there are people who care about him and now he knows what it feels like to be loved.
Sooty was even adopted by a loving family, who also adopted a doggy sister for him to play with!

Sooty’s story just goes to show that with a little bit of TLC, any dog can fit right in to your family.
