The ‘dog who no one wanted’ turned out to be just who one woman needed

Sofi was unable to walk correctly; she would fall, then get back up, then fall again and so on. But despite how many times she fell, she got back up every single time and refused to give up.

Sofi was living a Save a Greek Stray shelter at the time. She was believed to have suffered distemper as a puppy, which led to neurological problems and is ultimately the reason she has trouble standing.

Because of her medical issues, she was often overlooked, and no one ever wanted to adopt her. But Sofi remained positive and was still so sweet and friendly.

When Valia Orfanidou first saw Sofi in the shelter, she knew she had to help her. She saw past her sad eyes and wobbly balance. She knew this dog was deserving of love, so she posted a video of her in the hopes that someone would agree with her.

Her wish came true! A woman named Marcia saw the video and knew instantly that Sofi would be a perfect companion for her, her husband and her three kids. Sofi would even have two new doggy siblings to play with, both whom are also rescues.

After a month, Marcia flew from Holland to Greece to pick up her new family member. They formed an instant bond.

“It was like she recognized Marcia, even though she had never met her before,” Orfanidou wrote on Youtube. “It was as if she knew that Marcia was there for her.”

Marcia spent the day cuddling Sofi and spending time with her. This would be Sofi’s last day ever at the shelter.

Sofi, the dog who no one wanted, now lives like a queen in her new home. She is so loved and spoiled and has a warm bed to sleep in, a yard to run around in, and a family who adores her.

Orfanidou dedicates the video below to all the other dogs who, like Sofi once was, waiting in shelter kennels for a new life and a chance to be seen as a family member and companion. Hopefully Sofi’s story will encourage others to adopt shelter dogs!
