Random Dog Starts Following Hikers. They Are Overjoyed When They Read His Tag

You never know who you might run into when you’re out hiking – deer, elk, or other wildlife. But if you’re lucky enough like this group, you might just run into a friendly black dog named Smokey, who loves accompanying random hikers along the trails near Seattle, Washington.

The Dodo

Seattle resident Scott Brown and his group first encountered Smokey at the trailhead in North Bend to Teneriffe Falls. Smokey patiently waited in the parking lot for the group to get their things and tagged along with them as they began their trail. He seemed to wander about ahead of the group and seemed to know the trail pretty well.

At first, the group thought Smokey might be a lost dog and needed to be rescued. But since he looked well-fed and taken care of, they chose to enjoy his company a little longer. Eventually, curiosity got the better of Scott, and he decided to approach Smokey and check out his tag.

The friendly pooch didn’t object to Scott coming over and petting him. When Scott saw Smokey’s tag, he loved it so much, he took pictures of it and put it online. The pictures went viral and Smokey is somewhat of a legend now among hikers.

The front side of the tag read: Hi, I’m Smokey. I live nearby so please don’t take me. I like to follow hikers sometimes.

And the back of the tag read: Don’t worry, I’ll go home when I get tired. My people love me a lot. Thanks for being nice!

Smokey accompanied the hikers back to the parking lot and waited for them to pack their things. He then went on his merry way back into the neighborhood, giving them a goodbye bark as he left. This dog is surely living life to the hilt!
